Monaco Leosis, et al. : This one was done the week after my Boards. From left to right, they are:
(left) The Consumption -- An ancient creature of evil representing tuberculosis or T.B. Tuberculosis used to be called "The Consumption" because of the relentless way in which the afflicted would waste away. Once on its way into the endangered list, due to the increase in immunosuppressed individuals (AIDS, transplants), TB has come back with a vengeance. The tentacles with the mouths represent the cavitary pulmonary lesions and multi-system attacks that TB can inflict.
(center) Monaco Leosis -- She gives a face to the disease known as "the kissing disease" or "mono" (infectious mononucleosis). The lips on her shirt represent her infectious kiss. The star on her shirt represents the enlarged spleen (splenomegaly) an infected person can get temporarily. The tattoo on her right leg says "EBV," short for Epstein Barr Virus, the virus agent behind "mono." The bullet-shaped things on her left leg are supposed to be various lipsticks, sticking with the "kissing" theme, but I know you couldn't have guessed that. So I'm telling you.
(right) Marquis Tor Sade -- Based on the infamous sexual sadist, The Marquis de Sade, this drawing represents an arrhythmia called Torsades. The EKG pattern looks similar to that scar on his chest (and the wave in his whip).
