THINGS I FORGOT TO TELL YOU

Another day, another year.  Another month that slipped by.  Another year I'm not sure why.  Or bother to try.

There were lots of things I meant to write.  New drama, same old stories, requisite nonsense.
  • I forgot to mention Amy got that laser eye surgery last summer.  It's been working great for her, except for an instance in which she got a cold and one eye felt like she had an eyelash permanently stuck in it.  Prednisone eye drops fixed that.
  • I got my eyes refitted for new glasses.  The optometrist asked me how old I was (yes, I know I look younger than I --) and then mentioned how my eyes look a lot OLDER than my stated age - as in early cataract formation.  She advised me to wear sun protection even though I get less sunlight than Bram Stoker's Dracula.  This sounds like second opinion time for an ophthalmologist (I had to look the spelling up for that one - I usually just write "opthy" for a reason).  So I'll have cataracts some day -- oh well, that's what Impressionism is for.

  • As for good news, I went to my second grappling tournament in November (just after I posted the entry about my first tournament).  I did a bit better and actually got a silver in my division.  The university paper interviewed our team and I even  have a quote in there.  I'm "Scott" of course.  (Copy of article here in case the link disappears.)
  • Sun Su started preschool.  He hasn't been sent home early yet.
  • Baby Ooseung is becoming a bit of a night owl like her appah.
  • I drew a cartoonish picture for Lana (below).

  • My favorite movie of the year was ... Walk The Line.  I never actually listened to an entire Johnny Cash song before I saw it and I never cared much for Joaquin Phoenix or Reese Witherspoon either.  But I really liked this one.  I liked the heavy string bass sounds, Cash's heavy lyrics, and Reese's southern belle charm.  I loved how it starts in the prison.
  • The more I care for my little ones, the less I care for everyone else.  With the exception of that whole empathy thing you have for other parents and their children.

  • I look at pictures of Sun Su and Ooseung when they were younger and think they weren't as cute as I thought they were then.  But right now, they are cuter than anything on the planet.
  • I saw Garbage, The Yeah Yeah Yeah's (maybe this was 2004 actually), and Depeche Mode (Amy's idea) in concert this year.

  • Funniest thing I heard this year was from Sun Su:  "My poop big like bad guy !"
  • Second funniest thing was a joke my brother said to his girlfriend's family at Thanksgiving:  "What do you call a black guy who can fly a plane?"  [Uncomfortable silence.]   "A pilot, you racist bastards!"
  • I turned 35 this month.  This fact kind of makes beating 20-year old tough guys in submission wrestling that much more satisfying.
  • Almost a year ago, Amy and I had an argument about something in which she emphatically stated (several times), "BUT YOU'RE NOT COREAN."  I never claimed otherwise but something about this exclusionary statement coming from her shotgunned all the nails in the coffin.  I just cannot overerestimate the impact this has had on me since, considering who I am and who it came from. Some love is lost and won't be replaced.  I heal from a darker place than that.  Et tu.
I didn't really forget to mention that last part this past year.  I just didn't really want to.

Now that all of that is off my chest and out of my heart, here's to a new  year without a secret weakness.

Q:  What's a good guy without a secret weakness?

A:  A bad guy.

(Reports of ... The LIGER!'s demise have been greatly exaggerated.)
