DAD'S BIRTHDAY
I went to Ann Arbor today for my dad’s 59th birthday. His birthday is actually tomorrow but my sister-in-law insists that we cannot celebrate after the actual birth date but we can celebrate before or on the birth date.
I ate as much Korean food as I could in three hours. All the kids pitched in and got him a new lawnmower. Everyone asked me where Scott was and I had to tell them he was working. It seems that everytime I go home, some relative asks for a prescription for some drug or another. Also, it does not feel like home if someone does not comment on my weight or lack of and I have to whip out my biceps to prove my health. My 4-year old nieces have also been pulling up their sleeves to expose their muscle, thanks to me.
STEPFORD NEIGHBORHOOD
These past few weeks I have been looking at homes and I think we will be moving into a new neighborhood when the house is finished. The neighborhood has many strict rules and guidelines to maintain it’s "aesthetic" value at all times. It sort of reminds me of that movie "Stepford Wives" and how everything looked similar and too nice all the time. I am really just looking forward to getting out of an apartment.
STEPFORD HOSPITAL
Work has been fine although our new uniform policy will be in effect starting next month. The administration wants all the nurses to wear the same color uniform so that we look professional and so patients and families can easily recognize us. This also reminds me of the "Stepford Wives." The hospital gave us two pairs of uniforms and have told us many times that we will be reprimanded if we do not follow the strict uniform guidelines.
I wrote an email to administration about my concerns. The nurses wear name badges so we can easily be identified. In the ICU, our uniforms will most likely get soiled because of various body fluids flying around. The usual work week for a full time nurse is 3 to 4 days a week. I do not believe ICU nurses should have to buy their own uniforms, this is the only hospital I know that does not provide nurses with enough uniforms in the ICU. I think it will be very difficult to follow the dress code because I cannot do laundry every two days. I will wait for their reply and I will have to see what happens in the upcoming month. Enough about work.
GYMNASTY
Has anyone been watching the Olympics? I cannot believe it. Something has to be done. I was watching the women's' gymnastics the day the vault was way off in height (5 cm). Everyone messed up on the vault which obviously messed up their next performances. When they finally realized the huge mistake, they allowed them to perform the vault over again, but it didn’t matter because the whole day was affected. They should have redone the entire day. I cannot believe what happened. Does anyone feel the same as I do? It is a travesty!
FREE FOOD
Scott often has work dinners he has to attend and I recently went to a drug rep’s dinner with his group. I don’t actually think spouses were invited but I went anyway, besides, I don’t think they would ask me to leave. The drug reps are trying to sell their product and they have to be nice, so I wasn’t too worried. I actually had a good time. I had swordfish, two glasses of wine, and I had dessert which I usually don’t have. It was also a good opportunity to see everyone that Scott works with.
GLAMOUR DON'T
On a personal note, I wanted to add a little shine to my hair and I bought hair color and my hair turned orange like the color of orangutans. The box said the color would disappear in 28 washings but I couldn’t stand it so I bought another box and luckily, it turned back to a dark brown. I will never color my hair again, I will leave it to the professionals.
... The LIGER! IS PREGNANT
... The LIGER! is getting too fat. Sometimes I think he could be a she and is actually pregnant because his belly is almost touching the ground. I have been trying to reduce his food intake but he keeps meowing for more food. He meows more to me than to Scott.
