Brambles : A classic Korean face next to a classic Korean structure (Aeryeonjeong Bower, built in 1692). Kings would visit and write poems in praise of this peaceful area.
I wanted to specifically draw the profile structure of this woman's face with special attention to the distinctive contours above her eyes. Other than that I left most of the detail for the right half of the drawing and background. I kept the hair flat black to keep things simple in contrast to the other half of the drawing. Plus, I didn't want to spend the extra time it would take to draw in her highlights (or fix the perspective for that matter).
I played with the idea that her dark hair could mesh with and resemble the branches in the trees as well. Like a force of nature.
