The Alterna-Sins : I did this drawing for a talk about herbal medicines and Alternative Medicine, hence the name of the newest group to my pantheon, The Alterna-Sins.

The middle character is Jin Sin (as in "Ginseng"), the Asian panacea of "well-being." She is Medea Sin's sister, although both sisters claim to be the elder one. Jin Sin is old world nature and new age style combined. Covered in body paint from head-to-toe, representing various symbols such as waves, the yin-yang, the Tree of Life, lightning, and the Serpents (which form an inverted Caduceus when she puts her legs together).

That's a little Ginseng Man sitting on her left shoulder there. A ginseng flower sits on the rim of her blade-rimmed hat (a la Kung Lao in MortalKombat 2 and 3, or even Oddjob in James Bonds' Goldfinger). Tough as oak, more ancient than the Redwoods, and sweeter than the honeypot hanging from her hips. She poses an unknown threat to the reigning Medea Sin's Dynasty. [see close-up of Jin Sin here]

The character to the right is St. John, representing St. John's Wort. Also known as "the herbal Prozac," John there is perpetually happy. In his left hand, is a bouquet of St. John's wort flowers. In his right hand is a Happy Face Hammer.

Ginkgo, Jin Sin, and St. John.

On the left is Ginkgo (larger version here), the herbal medicine touted to fight dementia (reason for the glasses) and impotence (reason for the gun). That drawing was based on the kind-hearted journaler Ginkgo, who is sadly gone forever. I don't draw guns anymore.
